Can you even imagine Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. having an impact on the music industry? That’s exactly what the students at Relentless Entertainment examine in their brand new video.

Relentless Entertainment is the record label at Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School. To honor Black History Month, students brought together an in-depth lesson about Dr. King’s work in Birmingham, Alabama, their work at the record label, and a classic ballad from Marvin Gaye.

That is a perfect example of what we call project-based learning. Students take lessons learned in a history class, put together a well-written essay explaining the details, tie it to their career and technical education work through the record label, and use their real-world skills to produce and song and video about all of it.

From Relentless Entertainment:

Watch Relentless Entertainment Group (MNPS’s own student-led record label) as they walk us through the Civil Rights movement of the 60’s and make a thought provoking connection to the Recording Industry. At the end, please check out our bonus “Throwback” song from the 60’s (recorded in the new Pearl-Cohn Recording Studios).

It’s educational as well as entertaining! Can you imagine sharing this with every classroom in this city during Black History month!

What phenomenal work from these talented students. Great things really are happening at Pearl-Cohn!
